Chai Spiced Cookies

Cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice and black pepper combine to create an incredibly aromatic spice blend that transforms a plain, chewy sugar cookie recipe into a complex and comforting cookie that pairs perfectly with a piping hot cup of chai.

Makes 2 dozen cookies
Preparation time: 15 minutes 
Cook time: 35 minutes 


  • 2 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour 
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp of salt 
  • 1 3/4 cup of sugar 
  • 2 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon 
  • 1 tsp of ground ginger 
  • 1 tsp of ground cardamom 
  • 1/2 tsp of ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter 
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract 


  • Preheat over to 350F. 
  • Mix together first 4 ingredients in large bowl.
  • Mix sugar and spices in separate bowl and remove 1/4 of mixture. 
  • Beat butter into the sugar/spice mixture. 
  • Beat in egg and vanilla extract, then add the dry ingredients into mixture. 
  • Roll dough into balls and roll into reserved 1/4 cup of sugar/spice mixture. 
  • Place dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, bake for 8-10 minutes.
